The Ministry of Health and Social Services in Namibia Launches Combined Resource Tracking Exercise
Date
U.S. Ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry, emphasized the importance of the SHA/NASA study's data for health and HIV-related policymaking, program management, and sustainable financing decisions. The USAID LHSS project will enhance local technical capacity and streamline processes for resource tracking institutionalization.
The Minister of Health and Social Services launched the combined resource tracking exercise on December 6, 2023, in Windhoek, which will use a combination of the Health Accounts and the National AIDS Spending Assessment methodologies to simultaneously estimate both health and HIV spending for the period 2020 to 2023. The exercise will generate information on the total amount of resources available for health and HIV, the sources of this financing, how the funds are managed, what the funds are spent on and who ultimately benefits from the spending. The U.S. Ambassador, Randy Berry, underscored the significance of the information generated by the SHA/NASA study for policymaking, program management and decisions around sustainable financing for health and the HIV response.
The exercise, supported by LHSS, focuses on providing technical support to ensure the soundness and accuracy of the data generated, but also aims to enhance the country's local capacity to institutionalize resource tracking for the routine generation of this information.
