Ministry of Health in Namibia Hosts Media Training to Enhance Health Reporting Skills
Date
As the Namibian government finalizes its Universal Health Coverage (UHC) policy, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) acknowledges the importance of effective stakeholder engagement and transparent communication on key decisions relating to the country’s path to UHC. To ensure that progress, achievements, challenges, and strategies in moving towards UHC are accurately communicated to Namibia’s public, the MoHSS with the support of the LHSS Project facilitated a 3-day workshop on effective and sensitive reporting on UHC. The training focused on providing the media with a clear understanding of the concept of UHC and its global significance, reporting in health emergencies and pandemics, reporting with sensitivity and accuracy, and mastering data interpretation in health journalism.
The LHSS Namibia activity supported the MoHSS to extensively engage a wide range of stakeholders in the development of Namibia’s UHC policy to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in decision-making processes, not only resulting in the development of a truly Nambian-owned UHC policy, but also paving the way for greater health sector cooperation.
