Namibia's Ministry of Finance Prepares for PEFA Assessment to Guide Financial Reforms

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises welcomes key stakeholders discusses the scope and dimensions of the PEFA assessment and agrees on the approach and timelines for its implementation.

 

With the support of the USAID-funded LHSS Project, the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises facilitated a 3-day workshop to train key stakeholders on the PEFA assessment methodology and to plan for its implementation. The PEFA assessment will allow the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. The PEFA assessment will allow the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises to gain a better understanding of the existing strengths and weaknesses of its public financing management system and to develop strategies to strengthen financial management across the entire public sector.

The assessment will guide policy reforms and enhance the government’s capacity for sustainable financing and resource management. With the health sector deep-dive, the PEFA assessment will enable the development of specific strategies to enhance efficiencies in the health sector. The PEFA assessment aligns with ongoing LHSS Namibia project support provided to the Ministry of Health and Social services to implement public financial management reforms aimed at improving the efficient allocation and use of resources, while strengthening accountability and transparency in health spending.
