Strengthening Kazakhstan's Health Systems: Key Ministries Convene to Facilitate One Health Coordination Meeting
Date
On February 8 and 9, with support from USAID’s LHSS Project, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted an Interagency Technical Working Group Coordination Meeting in Astana. Key stakeholders from Kazakhstan's Ministries of Health, Veterinary Services, Agriculture, and Ecology met with international organizations to discuss issues affecting collaborative preparedness efforts, human resource capacity for One Health, and other key topics such as joint disease investigation, data sharing, and early warning systems.
One Health is a collaborative approach that brings stakeholders from human health, animal health, and environment together to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from infectious diseases. The meeting marks the next step in developing regular mechanisms for interagency efforts to plan, coordinate, and monitor measures regarding zoonotic diseases, antibiotic resistance, biosecurity, and food safety in the country. LHSS's role in facilitating the meeting underscores our commitment to strengthening local health systems with methods designed by and for national stakeholders. Together, we're addressing critical health challenges and advancing intersectoral One Health cooperation.
